Paper machines encounter various problems during paper production, all stemming from different factors. By identifying the root cause during production, these issues can be resolved calmly and efficiently. The appearance of coarse texture in paper produced by a paper machine may be due to factors in pulping or papermaking, such as improper material and additive combinations in pulping, low freeness, inappropriate doctor blade angle in papermaking, excessive steam usage, or alkaline white water. All of these can lead to coarse texture.
Once the cause is identified, solutions are readily apparent. If the problem originates in the papermaking process, solutions include controlling steam consumption, replacing rollers, and adjusting the doctor blade angle. If the issue stems from pulping, solutions involve appropriately increasing the pulp consistency and freeness, adjusting pulping ratios, and applying additives.
